Press release 13.6.2017

This summer, Kaustby Folk Music Festival will present three fine ensembles in its showcase series. The showcase groups for 2017 are the spelmansystrarna Duo Systrami from Sweden, Perpetuum Lokomobile who have taken inspiration from both finsk-ugriska arkivinspelningar and ambient, and Marko Siekkinen & Toivoniemen reservaatti, who play roots music and come from Uleåborg.

Duo Systrami inspireras av hembygdens natur och tvillingrelationens dynamikens

Duo Systrami from Sweden is an intimate collaboration between tvillingsystrarna Fanny and Klara Källström. They have been playing together since they were children and now they troll on violin and cello to create a black spelmansgroove, which can also be heard on their debut album which came out in February last year. Repertoaren består av egna kompositioner.

Rent musically we are inspired by two things: nature in our hembygd Ångermanland and the dynamics of our television relationship,” says Fanny Källström, who plays the violin. ”Ångermanland is a very curious landscape with songs and mountains, and nature is characterised by a certain mysticism, which is also present in our music, where several songs tell of the natural phenomena, and our debut song is called När isen går.”

Också i en tvillingrelationen finns det en hels del drama och dynamik. Vår papa är musiker och vi har alltid spelat mycket tillsammans. En tvillingrelation är på sätt och vis på liv och ödd. We know each other so well that you can know another woman and when we meet up, the two of us can be ourselves completely.”

Originally, both flickorna played fiol. A duo consisting of violin and cello is more unusual in folk music, but Källströms tycker det fungerar mycket bra bra. We both study classical music for the rest of our lives. The different genres support each other and are inspired by each other, that's all that matters. Our studies have also taken us to different cities: I study in Malmö and Klara in Stockholm,” says Fanny Källström.
