Svenska Trio Törn är ett av showcasebanden i Kaustby i år

Kaustby folk music festival has once again brought three leading folk music stars to the year's showcase series. Even a band from Sweden will be there, namely Trio Törn, which experiments with a completely new combination of instruments. De other två banden är Maria Reikko & Best Case Scenario Band, who play to dans with nutida folk music, and Väisänen, etc, som berättar egna historier i sångform.

Trio Törn promotes Kaustby with a fresh blend of Swedish folk music. The young musicians' roots lie firmly in the folk music tradition, but they are happy to explore its boundaries with a unique combination of instruments including the harp, viola and cello. Their debut song was recorded this summer, and with it in the baggage, the trio will be performing throughout the summer.

- The reason for the group is clearly the desire to experiment, our approach is quite original when it comes to instruments, reports cellisten. Klara Källström, who played in Kaustby in fjol with his group Duo Systrami.

Trio Törn is first and foremost a meeting between three musical personalities.

– Olof Kennemark som spelar fiol kommer från Västergötland, medan Peter Dillner på nyckelharpa kommer från Uppland. They have both played a lot of låtar from their homeland. Själv kommer jag från Ångermanland och har förutom låtar därifrån också spelat a lot of classical music. Vi har alltså alla lite olika bakgrund och concenterar oss nu på att skapaot något nytt, utan att glömma rötterna såklart. Fast vi är experimentella spelar vi mycket till dans också!

– Att spela i trio är så himla roligt och intressant, man kan byta roller hela tiden. You are not bound to a certain role, for example there is no one who only compars. På det här sättet kan vi verkligen utnyttja instrumentens hela potential och utforska något nytt tillsammans.

All three musicians have studied simultaneously at the Kungliga Musikhögskolan in Stockholm, where Olof Kennemark has already passed his exams. Does the surname Kennemark ring a bell? Javisst, hans far är Hans Kennemark, known from Forsmark Tre and Nordik Tree.
