The Pro Kaustinen association, which organises the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival, had a deficit of €23 000 for the financial year ending at the end of September. The festival fell slightly short of its ticket sales targets, although both the number of tickets sold and the total number of visitors increased compared to the previous year. Of the revenue for the financial year, 44% consisted of ticket sales. The total budget for the event was €858 000, slightly higher than in previous years.

”Of course, we are not satisfied with the deficit, and we will continue to keep a close eye on our finances. However, the deficit is not large in relation to turnover and will have no impact on the organisation of the festival in the coming summer. Production is going strong and the association's coffers are strong,” sums up Sirpa Lahti, President of Pro Kaustinen ry.

A further boost to the production of the centenary year was provided by the recently published increases in Parliament's budget. The Finance Committee has allocated increases to education, culture and youth, including two museums and two cultural events. An additional €50 000 was allocated for the 50th anniversary of the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival.

In 2017, the Folk Music Festival celebrates its 50th anniversary. The theme of the year is Celebrations. The band of the year, the artists of the showcase series and other first programme information will be announced on 13-14 January 2017 at the Folklandia cruise and on the Folk Music Festival website www.kaustinen.net.
