The gamekeeper's diary

On Saturday 16.7.2016 the office will start to wind down. At 13.00. The day's special arrangements are taken care of, it's a moment of serene quiet for the first time all week. It's wonderful to be able to concentrate on business in peace. The Slavonic Tractor rehearsals can be heard from the corridor. If I can't make it to the concert, at least I can visit the practice room and get my ears and soul full of Bulgarian female choral singing. I think I went to heaven, because I've always said that [...]

But at this point, I have to gloat! I never knew how much of a community, originality and multicultural spirit we have here! Almost every corner of the whole municipality has been taken [...]

The Kaustinen Folk Music Festival continues apace. With 27 venues offering a national and international programme, the music and dancing goes on from dawn till dusk. This time the theme is President Kekkonen's visit to Kaustinen in 1974, when he inaugurated the Pelimannital. ”The play is mostly on an imaginative level,” says director Anna-Kaisa Kettunen. ”A Kaustisian host and hostess wonder what it would be like [...]

Nothing else matters

I know many people from Kausti who have been to festivals all 49 times or all their lives, and for whom getting into the atmosphere does not seem to be a relevant issue. Watching the regulars at the festival, both players and audience, I have sensed the same. You don't get into the mood - it starts when you pick up the games and start playing and listening. So it's embarrassing that only a dozen years [...]
