The ninth national Konsta Jylhä competition has been won by Aoids. The members of the group Heli Hartikainen, Minttu Hellstén, Essi Hirvonen and Jenni Venäläinen convinced the jury with their passionate performance. The ensemble was also praised for its deep understanding of this year's competition theme, Ancient Finnish music.
And second and third place were shared between two bands. Second place went to the duo of Silvo Vatanen and Jarmo Romppanen and The Mystic Revelation of Teppo Repo. Third place went to Duo Selina and Sumu. The World Mänkeri Orchestra was awarded a special prize for its long-standing work in the field of Ancient Finnish music and instrument making.
The final was held at Pelimannitalo in Kaustinen Folk Music Festival on Tuesday 10.7.2018. The Konsta Jylhä competition is organised by Pelimannitalo in cooperation with the Folk Music Institute. The total prize money was 10 000€, of which the winning band received 3000€.
