Press release 11.7.2017

The final of the eighth national Konsta Jylhä competition took place in Pelimannitalo in Kaustinen Folk Music Festival on Tuesday 11.7.2017. This year the competition was aimed at small ensembles performing new or old folk music.

The competition was held in a single category, where new music also had to have a clear link to tradition. MäSä duo from Lapua and Kausti won the competition, which was intense and of a high standard. The jury was impressed by the group's surprise and interaction with the audience.

Second place went to Luomuduo (Sakari Keipi and Olli Sippola) and third to Poja! (Esko Grundström, Tero Pajunen and Tomas Takolander). Fourth place went to Pohjola Project (Timo Alakotila, Pauliina Pajala and Antti Pohjola) and fifth to NBB (Mikko Malmivaara, Joonas Ojajärvi and Esa Satomaa) and Terhi & Juho (Terhi Puronaho and Juho Puronaho).

The Konsta Jylhä competition is organised by Pelimannitalo in cooperation with the Folk Music Institute. The total prize money awarded was €10 000, with the winner and runner-up receiving the same amount of €2,500.
