KAUSTINEN FOLK MUSIC FESTIVAL TO A TOP RESULT

Kaustinen Folk Music Festival was celebrated for the 50th time last week - with great results.

”This was definitely the most successful year of Pro Kaustinen's production - in addition to a high-quality, top-level programme, the festival was a financial success,” say chairwoman Sirpa Lahti and executive director Sini Keränen. ”We expected an increase, but we were still completely overwhelmed by this result.” Lahti says.

The number of tickets sold also increased significantly, reaching over twenty thousand (22,395 tickets sold, compared to 16,743 in 2016). The total number of tickets sold was also boosted by a further increase in the number of players: another record number of 5,207. ”The weekend's attendance was also boosted by the cooperation with the Finnish Pensioners” Union, which brought around two thousand members of the union to the party," says Keränen.

The total number of visits during the centenary year was 55.958 (2016 42.892).

Next year's celebrations will take place from 9-15 July 2018. The theme of the celebrations is nature. The programme will also feature the Folk Music and Folk Dance Promotion Centre's theme of living heritage and the regional theme of Lapland.
