The whole family is welcome in Kaustinen

The whole family is welcome at the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival - the festival park offers plenty to do for children of all ages. The Children's Tent will be open throughout the festival week, but the programme for families is by no means limited to the Children's Tent. Children under 7 years old can enter the area free of charge, while a day ticket for children aged 7-15 costs €8.

Responsible for the children's programme Veera Luomala is particularly pleased that a performer in children's music has been chosen as the ensemble of the year, which feels like a great tribute to an important field of work.

Band of the Year Children's music orchestra Ammuu! will perform at the Keskipohjanmaa Arena on Tuesday and will be present during the festival week both in the children's tent and with concerts for babies, says Luomala. Before their concerts, it will also be possible to take part in Ammuu! talks, where Metropolia's early music students will introduce Ammuu to popular songs beforehand.

Children's Music Orchestra in animal costumes Ammuu! fits in nicely with the nature theme of this year's Kaustinen Folk Music Festival, as does another children's favourite: Little Papa's Orchestra, who will perform in Kaustinen on Friday in Kaustinen Hall and on Saturday in the Children's Tent. The author who created the character will also be present. Liisa Kallio.

Children's literature is present not only in the orchestra of the Little Beanstalk, but also in the pin a concert by contemporaries Grass green poetry sofa, featuring compositions and arrangements by Susanna Kentala Mervi Heikkinen, Maria Korhonen and Piia Perkiö. The story features an Esmeralda cow.

Horned Migration and Leprechauns

The nature theme also includes Cultural Cooperative Uulu Horn Travelling on Saturday 14.7., where children and adults can get away from the Festival Park for a while and dive into the impressive forests of Kaustinen. The Uulu cultural cooperative is based in Tampere and actively introduces both children and adults to Finnish and world music cultures.

Horn navigation has been in our programme for a long time, says Henna Leisiö, who is responsible for navigation. It was originally invented as a camp school programme when people wanted a programme that worked at night. And what could be more exciting than going into the dark forest to follow the sound of horns?

Since then, the concept has also been implemented during the day, as in Kaustinen, where the plan is to start from the Kalliopavilion towards the Pauantee forests. Naturally, the package includes an introduction to the horns and a trial run. A varied collection of horns, from animal horns to firehorns, will be included.

The horns will also be part of the Cultural Cooperative Uulu's Tapiola concert on Friday 13.7., which will introduce them to various forest creatures from goblins to goblins. In addition, Uulu is organising rhythm baths on Tuesday and Thursday and an international Chiwele music adventure.

Dance and workshops

The nature theme is also reflected in other family programmes, for example, the Aila Duo from Lapland brings an inclusive movement and rhythm journey to Kaustinen to explore the seasons of Saimaa. Beloved songwriter Pentti Rasinkangas will perform with Jarmo Romppanen in both Finnish and Swedish concerts. The Kaustinen folk dance group Ottoset will offer dance workshops and the festival's dance programme will also include several performances suitable for the whole family, such as Dance Theatre Rimpparemmin Liikenteeksi and Hanna Peltola's dance adventure Owla and the lost walkia.

As usual, the children's tent will be hosted by the Tradilinnut team, says Veera Luomala. There you can also take part in the children's games demonstration. The craft tent next door will offer workshops on nature, among other things.

51. Kaustinen Folk Music Festival will be held 9.-15.7.2018.
