Bandets musik \u00e4r en uppfriskande kombination av musikalisk v\u00e4v, improvisation och \u00e5rhundraden gamla <em>joiku <\/em>tradition. Bandets frontfigur \u00e4r Hilda L\u00e4nsman, student vid Konstuniversitetets Sibeliusakademi, som har f\u00f6ljt i sin mors fotsp\u00e5r n\u00e4r det g\u00e4ller att bevara och odla den samiska musiktraditionen. Hennes mor, Ulla Pirttij\u00e4rvi, blev f\u00f6rst k\u00e4nd genom bandet Angelin tyt\u00f6t och inledde senare en solokarri\u00e4r. Virtuosbr\u00f6derna Nicholas och Kevin Francett samt Erkki Feodoroff skapar tillsammans med L\u00e4nsman ett musikaliskt landskap med influenser fr\u00e5n progressiv rock, jazz och grunge. \u00c4ven de mest \u00f6verraskande kombinationer sm\u00e4lter l\u00e4tt samman med L\u00e4nsmans joikus\u00e5ng. Med denna nominering hedrar Kaustinen Folk Music Festival den samiska kulturen, musiken och traditionerna och hyllar det arbete som g\u00f6rs f\u00f6r att h\u00e5lla den samiska historien och traditionen vid liv.<\/p>\n<p>F\u00f6rutom G\u00e1janas inneh\u00e5ller festivalprogrammet <strong>Laura Cortese &amp; danskorten,<\/strong> en stj\u00e4rnensemble med amerikansk folkmusik, och den mycket skickliga och karismatiska <strong>Betsayda Machado &amp; La Parranda el Clavo <\/strong>fr\u00e5n en liten by i Venezuela som ger sig ut p\u00e5 sitt f\u00f6rsta bes\u00f6k i Europa. Den actionfyllda filmen har kallats en \u2019musikalisk tornado\u2019 och <strong>Spelm\u00e4nnens bud<\/strong> fr\u00e5n Shetland tar plats tillsammans med sina lika livliga finska v\u00e4nner, den m\u00e4sterliga <strong>Frigg. <\/strong>Estlands popul\u00e4raste partyband <strong>Trad. Attack!<\/strong> inleder firandet av Estlands 100-\u00e5riga sj\u00e4lvst\u00e4ndighet p\u00e5 Kaustby. \u00c4ven finska band flockas p\u00e5 Kaustby under sommaren: <strong>Windstar<\/strong> \u00e4r en vokal folkhopensemble som \u00e4r bekant redan fr\u00e5n 2013 \u00e5rs Showcase-serie p\u00e5 Kaustby, folkorkester ledd av Niko Kumpuvaara med <strong>Paula<\/strong> <strong>Koivuniemi, <\/strong>och Kaustinens egna, obestridliga legender <strong>Folkmusiker, Prusikoukku<\/strong> och den 20-\u00e5riga <strong>T\u00f6tterss\u00f6n<\/strong> i en stor gemensam konsert. I barnprogrammet ing\u00e5r Timo Parvelas <strong>Smak och Bunny<\/strong> ber\u00e4ttelsekonsert och <strong>Satu Sopanen &amp; Tutti Orchestra<\/strong>. Folkdansm\u00e4staren Hannu Nipuli har satt ihop en folkdansf\u00f6rest\u00e4llning som v\u00e4cker liv i den hyllade koreografen Helvi Jukarainens koreografier. Hundratals folkmusiker kommer \u00e5terigen att fylla scenerna i Kaustby, bland de mest l\u00e5ngv\u00e4ga g\u00e4sterna finns <strong>Thunder Bay Pelimannit<\/strong> som kommer fr\u00e5n Ontario, Kanada, och <strong>Sons of America<\/strong> fr\u00e5n F\u00f6renta staterna.<\/p>\n<p>Sommaren 2017 \u00e5rs Showcase-serie med tre band har satts samman fr\u00e5n en riklig grupp av s\u00f6kande. <strong>Marko Siekkinen &amp; Toivoniemi Reserv<\/strong> \u00e4r ett bluegrass-, folk- och storytellingband fr\u00e5n Ule\u00e5borg. <strong>Duo Systrami<\/strong> \u00e4r en nordsvensk tvillingduo som \u00e4r s\u00f6ml\u00f6st synkroniserade i hela sin musik, fr\u00e5n arrangemang till framf\u00f6rande. <strong>Perpetuum Locomobile<\/strong> \u00e4r en modern bild av v\u00e4rldsmusikens ljudbild mitt i ett pandemonium, tecknad av mycket skickliga musiker.<\/p>\n<p>Den \u00e5ttonde nationella <strong>Konsta Jylh\u00e4 T\u00e4vling<\/strong> kommer att arrangeras p\u00e5 Kaustby folkmusikfestival den 10<sup>th<\/sup> - 11<sup>th<\/sup> \u00c5r 2017 riktar sig t\u00e4vlingen till sm\u00e5 ensembler (2-4 personer) och till skillnad fr\u00e5n tidigare \u00e5r har den bara en serie. Musiken som de t\u00e4vlande framf\u00f6r ska vara folkmusik, traditionell eller nyskriven. Den nya musiken b\u00f6r ocks\u00e5 ha en tydlig koppling till traditionen. T\u00e4vlingen arrangeras av Kaustinen Pelimannitalo i samarbete med Folkmusikinstitutet och vinnarna i t\u00e4vlingen upptr\u00e4der p\u00e5 Kaustby Folkmusikfestival.
