The Kaustinen Folk Music Festival programme is sure to have something for everyone on Friday. The performers range from <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>About Samuli Edelmann<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> to the most varied teams of players. Folk dance is also well represented, and one of the highlights of the night will be a folk dance group. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>The H\u00e4ss\u00e4k\u00e4n<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> a personal and fresh interpretation <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Ultra Bran<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> songs, which will be shown at the Central Ostrobothnia Arena at midnight.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

How is V\u00e4rttina? <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

On Friday, Kaustinen will also host the flagship of contemporary folk music <\/span><\/span><\/span>As a cobweb<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span><\/span>\u201dThis summer I have even had time to take a breath,\u201d says <\/span><\/span><\/span>Mari Kaasinen<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span>, the only original member of V\u00e4rttina. The band works periodically, with tours abroad in the autumn and spring, so there is also time for other work and teaching, for example. Last spring, the band was heard in Germany and the Czech Republic in addition to their home country. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

At the Kaustinen show, V\u00e4rttin\u00e4 will perform music from their latest album Viena (2015), which is inspired by Viena Karelia. There will also be a cross-section of favourites from older albums. \u201dAnd we're sure to have party hits at the Arena, so get ready to dance,\u201d Mari reminds us. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

From the beginning, the kayak singing snooze was V\u00e4rttina's trademark. \u201dIt was our natural Karelian pajatus, straight from the spinal cord,\u201d Mari laughs. \u201dLater we realised that this is how the grandmothers of the Ingria sing.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The style and composition of V\u00e4rttina has changed many times since big sister <\/span><\/span><\/span>Sari Kaasinen <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span>founded the band in R\u00e4\u00e4kkyl\u00e4 in 1983. Mari Kaasinen sees renewal as a strength, with new musicians bringing new energy. \u201dWe would hardly be here if there hadn't been changes along the way.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

V\u00e4rttin\u00e4 first conquered Kaustinen in 1985 and was voted Band of the Year in 1987. Three years later the album Oi dai was released, which broke the bank, so to speak. V\u00e4rttin\u00e4 really took off abroad and onto the world charts in 1992.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The next big interesting production of V\u00e4rttina's women is to sing for the artistic director of the National Ballet <\/span><\/span><\/span>Kenneth Greven<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span> In the Finland100-themed ballet spectacle Kalevalanmaa. There will be more than 20 performances from the beginning of November. The whole ensemble will implement the Finland100 theme in a concert series at the end of the year, including a series of concerts in the ballet halls of the city of Budapest. <\/span><\/span><\/span>Laila Kinnusen<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span> and <\/span><\/span><\/span>Harmony Sistersin<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span> music.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a>V\u00e4rttina's composition is Mari Kaasinen, vocals and kantele, <\/span><\/span><\/span>Susan Aho<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span>, singing, <\/span><\/span><\/span>Karoliina Kantelinen<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span>, vocals, kantele and flute, <\/span><\/span><\/span>Lassi Logr\u00e9n<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span>, violin, <\/span><\/span><\/span>Matti Laitinen<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span>, stringed instruments and <\/span><\/span><\/span>Mikko Hassinen<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span>, percussion instruments.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

New touring concept for parties<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Antti Savilammen<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span> and <\/span><\/span><\/span>JPP<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span>:s night atrille is one of the popular programme numbers of the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival, which annually attracts hundreds of dancers to participate in a low-threshold communal dance event. This year, the festival is experimenting with a new inclusive concept called Iltavilli choreographer-dance teacher <\/span><\/span><\/span>Petri Kauppinen <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span>under the leadership of. \u201dThe idea is to explore what a new kind of participatory dance happening could be,\u201d says Kauppinen. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Of course, the auction catwalk is not going away, the great tradition will continue. But now we are looking for another concept that would bring the dance to the present day and beyond. As in the night catrille, the band will of course play an important role. \u201dWe'll stick to folk,\u201d Kauppinen promises. \u201dYou could say it's a structured jam, the whole thing is lightly scripted and directed. There are different roles and characters, visitors such as... <\/span><\/span><\/span>Kike de Kake<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span> Dance theatre from Tsuum. But the main thing is not the performance, just the event, and that everyone is involved in making it happen. All that is needed is a positive attitude. \u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Pelican music from as far away as Japan<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kaustinen attracts players from near and far. Japanese gambler's band <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Tengon<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> the story is the sum of funny coincidences, says their contact person <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Ayana Palander<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>. Japanese guitarist <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Nihoko<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> was visiting the Kaustinen festival last summer and happened to stay in the same homestay with the master dancer <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Antti Savilammen<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> with. The skilled accordionist played his way into the heart of Savilampi with, among other things, the S\u00e4kkij\u00e4rvi polka. This was followed by a half-hour gig on the festival's pelican stage.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Violinist of the Tengo duo, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Noriko<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> will be Nihoko's partner on a tour of Finland this summer. The women are one of the few Japanese musicians who are familiar with and fascinated by world music and with it Finnish Spielmann music. They have been playing together since the early 2000s. The women are very energetic and engaging players, even though violinist Noriko is in her seventies and guitarist Nihoko in her fifties.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
