Pelimanni performer application now open!

The 51st Kaustinen Folk Music Festival will be held 9-15 Jul 2018. We hope that hundreds of folk music and folk dance groups will again join us in creating a unique village festival in the middle of finest Finnish summer!

For 2018, the theme of the Folk Music and Dance Promotion Center is All flavors – the living traditions of folk music and folk dance.  The year theme of the festival is nature and the provincial theme is Lapland.  We hope performers will consider these themes when devising programs for next summer’s festival.

Performers and performer groups can apply with this form or by mail.  The application process has two phases:  The first applications period is held 15 Nov – 31 Dec 2017. The second, supplementary applications period is held 1 Jan – 28 Feb 2018. Please note, this application is meant for performers, who want to perform and enjoy the festival atmosphere at Kaustinen without financial compensation.

With our separate area program application, we are looking folk art and traditional crafts performers (craft demonstrations, handicrafts, traditional games, local history etc.) and performers from all other arts (performance art, circus, visual arts etc.). You can also apply as a music or dance performer, but traditional stage performances do not suit the area program.  The area program is meant to create exciting art encounters in new places and situations in the festival area.  Performers that do not necessarily need a conventional stage for their performance are favored in the selection process.
