Kaustinen Folk Music Festival welcomes applications from artists and groups for the festival’s 2017 Showcase series. Three music groups, solo artists or folk dance groups will be selected as Showcase artists/groups for the 50th Kaustinen Folk Music Festival in the coming summer.

Showcase concerts will take place either in the large venues (Keskipohjanmaa Arena, Café Mondo, Club Kallio or Kaustinen Hall) with a P.A. system or at smaller, more intimate acoustic venues (Folk Musician’s House or Iholla Hall), depending on the group/artist. Each Showcase artist/group will be offered two performance slots at the festival. In addition to that the Showcase artists/groups will receive a considerable amount of publicity in the festival’s marketing and public communication (print materials, online presence and press events during the festival week).

Showcase artists/groups aren’t paid to perform and they’re also responsible for their own travel expenses. The festival offers free accommodation in the festival’s joint performer accommodation and free meals on the performance days. The artists also receive a festival pass for the entire duration of the festival.

The application period ends 31st October 2016. Showcase artists/groups are selected during November 2016 and announced in January 2017.

The showcase series was introduced at Kaustinen 2013, and a new set of bands is up again next year. As before, the programme team will select 3 rising names of folk music or folk dance.
